“Angioneurotic Edema”
The kind old doctor said to me. Giving me the answer that I had been seeking for what felt like an eternity.

And all I could say was,
“huh?”

Hereditary Angioedema (aka Angioneurotic Edema) is a rare disorder that results from a genetic deficiency of the blood-based protein C1 inhibitor. HAE patients experience attacks of edema (swelling) in the hands, face, feet, abdomen, and/or throat (airway).

A mixed blessing. Blessing to know what is it that’s wrong. Blessing to have started on a trial and error of treatment. Curse to have something wrong. Curse that there is a 50% chance my daughter will one day be dianogsed with this devil.
